'I Just Want My Jess Back' ICU Nurse Held Hostage In Upmc Memorial Shooting Fights To Heal

The York County community is rallying behind Jessica Huff, an ICU nurse who survived the UPMC Memorial shooting after being zip-tied, dragged by her hair, and used as a human shield.

Her fiancé, Jason Huff, shared her harrowing ordeal in an emotional Facebook post, revealing that the gunman forced her to the ground, stood on her back, and pulled the trigger against her head three times—only to hear an empty click.

“She broke her zip ties and ran,” Jason wrote. “I just want my Jess back.”

"No One Should Have To Go Through This"

Jessica’s son, Jayden Huff, has launched a GoFundMe to help cover therapy costs, lost wages, and recovery expenses.

“My mom has always been the one taking care of others, but now she needs us,” Jayden wrote.

The campaign, "I Just Wanna Make My Mom Smile Again," has already raised over $2,900 toward its $5,000 goal.

A Community Demanding Action

The hospital’s response—or lack thereof—has sparked outrage, with many calling for paid leave, trauma counseling, and improved security measures.

"She should automatically receive a leave of absence with pay and counseling," one supporter wrote.

Others are demanding mandatory metal detectors, stricter visitor protocols, and increased hospital security to prevent another tragedy.

How To Help

Jessica’s loved ones say her road to healing will be long, but they are grateful for the overwhelming support.
